Cargo ships

A cargo ship is a vessel intended solely for the carriage of goods.

Cargo ships are actually divided into ships for rivers and for sea. Cargo ships intended for sea usually can not use the smaller rivers and /or locks in those rivers (or channels) because of their size.

The larger rivers like the Schelde and the Elbe are so full with ships, the ports of Antwerp and Hamburg have their existence from it.

Not all vessels can always use the Panama Canal, the St. Lawrence River and the Suez Canal. Ships that fall through the locks of the Panama Canal are also known as Panamax vessels'. These vessels are approximately 304.8 meters long and 32.3 meters wide.
