A relatively new type of container ship is the "open-container ship". In this variant, the ship hulls are not closed by watertight hatches. Because of the height of the deck above the waterline, the seawater which is barely the ability to enter. Any rainwater is drained through pumps directly.
The advantage of this specific type of container vessel above the normal type (shutters that still has) is that a lot of time saved as the loading / unloading of containers each time have to be stopped before removing or replacing the on luiken.
